Pilot Alpin 4

Pilot Alpin 4

More Control Over Weather Conditions

COLD WEATHER TYRES FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE CARS

Heavily grooved tread pattern
Tyre tread with an increased number of ridges(3) and sipes(4).
Benefits: Greater traction and braking on snow and ice.

StabiliGrip
Deep sipes designed in three dimensions, set out at variable angles allowing:
• more ridges for greater traction,
• the water film to be broken and the tyre to be on dry ground,
• increased rigidity in the rubber blocks.
Benefits: Grip and Driving precision.

Helio Compound 3G
The 3rd generation of the Heliocompound rubber mixture. A new rubber mixture formula based on silica and using sunflower oil(5), for better grip in cold weather.

The MICHELIN Pilot Alpin 4 tread pattern may be different from the picture of the tyre above. Depending on the fitment the tread pattern can be Asymmetrical or Directional.

Why do you use both Asymmetrical and Directional tread patterns?
Indeed the new MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN has two different tread patterns. The reason is that we worked simultaneously in two parallel ways: one is made in collaboration with Porsche, the second one in a more common way. The two solutions have succeeded to achieve the desired result. Both of tread patterns respond perfectly to the “ridge-n-flex” philosophy and use the same elements but in a slightly different way.

Traditionally the asymmetric pattern is seen as the pattern for better handling. So what about handling with the PA4 Directional pattern version?
Indeed the asymmetric tread pattern is a solution for better handling, but not the only one. As you know the tyre is a system of many elements. By combining them in different ways, you can get great handling with both asymmetric or directional. The good example is our new PILOT ALPIN directional tyre approved by Porsche for the new 911 and Boxster.

Does it mean that Directional MICHELIN Pilot Alpin is only for Porsche?
No, not only.
Indeed it seems like this, as we have started with Porsche sizes. We are free to design more directional sizes for any other vehicles to meet their requirements.
Even today these sizes exist in two versions V/W (Porsche marked and without special marking).
